In British Columbia, Emergency Medical provision (outside WorkSafeBC) is legislated by the Emergency Health Act, the Emergency Medical Assistants Act, and their associated regulations.  In 2021, in response to the changing landscape of Emergency Medical Services, multiple stakeholders, including individual Emergency Medical Attendants (EMAs), provider agencies, training agencies, legislators and regulators, submitted a proposal to amend the regulations and, therefore, the scope of practice of the different levels of EMAs. In September of 2022, the minister of Health, under ministerial order M292, amended the regulations with the stipulation that the EMA must demonstrate they have been trained in the updated scope.
