St. John Canada Urges Peace in Ukraine
March 02, 2022

The eyes of the world currently bear witness to the unprecedented and unwarranted aggression of one Sovereign nation over another.  The violence and hostility towards the people of Ukraine are catastrophic and without modern precedence.  The unlawful aggression and hostility directed by one nation over another is demonstrably contrary to the articles of Armed Conflict and a globally accepted Rules Based Order.

As a venerable institution founded on humanitarianism and providing care and comfort to the sick and injured, this conduct is contrary to all of our shared values. We therefore strongly condemn the unprovoked aggression by Russia towards Ukraine and demand an immediate cessation of hostilities.

We also recognize and support the valiant movements and other displays of support for Ukraine that have spontaneously materialized throughout the globe.  Those who wear the mantle of freedom often do so at their own personal risk and are true champions of liberty and an inspiration to us all.

Canada is home to a diverse population including those with a deeply rooted affinity to Ukraine.  We stand united with them in the cause of justice, peace and the sovereignty of nationhood.

We steadfastly support our affiliate Order; the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and Malta as they continue on the ground to heroically provide much needed psychological assistance and first aid training to the people of Ukraine https://www.malteser-international.org/en/our-work/europe/ukraine.html. Very recently, St. John Ambulance Canada collaborated with the Sovereign Order of Malta in Ukraine to provide first aid training material, supplies and defibrillators to family shelters within the country.

We remain in contact with these heroes currently still operating in Lviv, Ukraine as they continue in their mission to relieve suffering, conduct training and provide material support to those injured, displaced and tormented by the traumatic effects of war. We encourage everyone to donate generously to and support our affiliate Order and Canadian organizations providing humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

If you would like to help, please send your donation to either:

History has not yet been written, nor the outcome defined.

Let it be known that the Priory of Canada of the Most Venerable Order of St. John of Jerusalem declares its resolute commitment to the people of Ukraine, and we will continue to advocate for an immediate end to their needless suffering.
