St. John Ambulance, British Columbia & Yukon (SJA BCY) is a not for profit ‘mission-led enterprise’ committed to empowering safer communities through first aid leadership. SJA BCY is part of the federated St. John Ambulance organization in Canada, which is represented from coast to coast. Today, SJA BCY is a market leader in the development and delivery of first aid courses, first aid products and we support first aid in communities through our 1500 plus volunteers.

The Opportunity
Our British Columbia and Yukon Provincial Head Office is seeking someone who is a strong project manager, with an equally strong sense of contributing to communities in BC. Reporting to the Director of Business Development, this position will project manage the deployment of the SJA BCY Start Me Up BC program.

Start Me Up BC is a program designed to contribute to safer communities in BC through the deployment of public Automated External Defibrillator (AED) stands. These stands include an AED, First Aid Kit, Naloxone Kit, monitoring and communications hardware/software and have a high visibility presence.

SJA BCY has been provided with grant funds by the BC Ministry of Health to deploy approximately 120 stands in BC. Additional contributions and support have been secured from public and private sector partners, including charities, local municipalities, and commercial businesses.

The opportunity for the Project Manager is to lead the implantation and delivery of this critical community project. The funding is in place, suppliers are ready, communities and locations are being confirmed – your role is to bring it all together and make it happen!

Please note - This position is a contract opportunity until 30 April 2023, with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead the project delivery of Start Me Up BC, to ensure we reach our goal of deploying 120+ stands by the end of March 2023.
  • Work with key suppliers and vendors to ensure the pipeline of required infrastructure and services (e.g. AED machines, physical stands) aligns with the roll out and installation of the stands.
  • Work with community partners (public and private sector) to confirm locations and installation requirements for all stands.
  • Oversee the quality control of the installation to ensure high standards of delivery are met.
  • Manage an internal budget to ensure the project is delivered within confirmed financial parameters.
  • Lead and/or support an internal project team to ensure a cohesive and collaborative approach to the delivery of the project.
  • Collaborate with the business development, marketing, operations, and finance teams to maximize the efficiency of the project delivery.
  • Support the marketing and promotional teams to generate publicity for the project.
  • Provide reporting and documentation as needed (e.g. project updates, budget updates, delivery reports to external partners, final project report, etc.).
  • Embody the mission of SJA BC in the delivery of your role and in your interactions with our team, volunteers, and external partners.

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • You are a strong project manager and can create a comprehensive project plan and see it through to completion, including prioritization of key milestones, identification of risks, motivation of internal and external partners, and management of resources.
  • You are comfortable working alone or in small teams, with a keen sense of deadlines and what it takes to meet them.
  • You are also comfortable working with partners and stakeholders, which may include SJA BCY staff, key vendors/suppliers, and external delivery partners such as local municipalities and/or local businesses.
  • You communicate clearly and can influence others to be active members of the project team and its successful delivery of Start Me Up BC.
  • You are analytical, a self-starter, and a problem-solver; you are comfortable dealing with projects that have inherent uncertainty, and you have the confidence to find solutions when problems arise; you get the job done – on time and on budget.
  • You embrace and promote teamwork, including experience sharing and market knowledge.
  • You are motivated by the mission of SJA BCY and recognize the importance of leading a project that has the potential to save lives.
